Born of mixed heritage (her father is Japanese and her mother is Italian- American), the New York City-native, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania and spent nearly a decade buying for stores like Bergdorf Goodman, Harvey Nichols Dubai and Barneys New York, while taking fashion design classes at FIT at night. After a stint in merchandising for brands like Lapointe, and Georg Jensen, Mariko decided to pursue her dream of launching her own brand with a nod to her heritage in early 2019. An avid equestrian and veteran burner, Mariko currently resides in East Harlem with her dog Coco and her cat Koney.
