This coat is constructed from a US military blanket and Japanese kimono fabric used during the WWII era and the Occupation of Japan. These textiles are testaments to both sides of the Pacific War, and this coat is designed to honor the sacrifices of the war, as well as the long, complex relationship between the US and Japan. I have updated the traditional kimono shape and construction for a more modern silhouette that can be easily layered. The soft, rounded shoulder has no seam. New and old repairs attest to the unique history of each of these textiles.
